NOTW: I have Miami on my Mind

April 11, 2010

I re-visited another color I over-wore last summer (2009) which was from OPI’s South Beach Collection.  Purple is my favorite color, and Done Out in Deco, is a beautiful lilac.  I love it against my complexion.

Do you have a nail polish color you keep re-visiting? If so, which and why?

My uses for MAC Fix+ Spray

April 8, 2010

This post was sparked by a post on Self-Confessions of a Beauty Addict  where she asked her readers what they used MAC’s Fix + Spray for?  This is my response to her.

Description (source):
(Retail: $18 for 3.4 fl oz)
An aqua-spritz of vitamin and minerals, infused with a calm-the-skin blend of green tea, chamomile, cucumber, topped off with the fresh, natural, energizing scent of Sugi. Adds radiance, finishes makeup. Spray it on. Skin drinks it up!

Fix + is supposed (keyword: supposed)to be used to set your makeup after application.

I use it for the following:
1. To moisten my skin before applying moisturizer

2. To apply eyeshadow/pigments to decrease fall out

3. I spray it on my brush when I use my brow powder to make the lines more defined and straight.

4. Using e/s as an eyeliner.

5. To wet sponge/brush for foundation application.
6.  I spray it on after I apply my makeup for a dewy glow.
If you want a good fixer, for a reasonable price, you can try Ben Nye’s Final Seal.  The 2 oz bottle is available at Alcone Co for $7 ($5 at; the 8 oz is $17; 16 oz $27

Do you use MAC’s Fix+?  If not, what do you use instead?

Johnson’s Baby Oil Gel & Baby Creamy Oil

April 2, 2010
I was invited to attend the Essence an Johnson & Johnson for WEEN event hosted by Mikki Taylor, that took place last week Saturday, March 27, 2010  at the W hotel Union square.  The panel consisted of  Dr. Cheryl Burgess of Black Opal, celebrity MUA’s Derrick Rutledge, and Tia Dantzler,  along with Joelle Lyons.  Sam Fine & Lisa Wu Hartwel (RHOA) was also in attendance, and shared some of their beauty secrets.
If you check other beauty blogs, you will be able to see what each panelist said during the event.  I was unable to attend, so the person who contacted me sent me what I would have received in my “swag bag” which contained Johnson & Johnson products: (1)baby oil, (2)baby oil gel, and (2)baby creamy oil.

The world of baby oil gels aren’t new to me at all. In fact, I love them.   I’ve used the Aloe, Chamomile (discontinued), Lavender (discontinued) and  the Cocoa Shae Butter gels.  Throughout the life of my blog, I’ve mentioned using Johnson’s Baby Oil Gel.  I talked about my use of it during the cold winter months in my “Beat Dry, Flaky Skin this Winter” post, and in a post I did last summer (2009) titled, “Tanning Season: Achieving the Perfect Summer Glow.”

I use Johnson’s Baby Oil Gel ($3.29 at Target) for several things besides the obvious, which is keeping my skin soft & moisturized (locks in up to 10-times more moisture).  I’ve used it to take off my eye or lip makeup.  I’ve used it on my cuticles while giving myself an at-home manicure.

As my previous posts stated, J&J baby oil gel is best used immediately after bathing/showering, and when used with a lotion on-top.  Don’t use too much because a little goes a very long way.  This is a great product for people who love baby oil, but don’t like the runny mess it can create.  Since they sent the Baby Creamy Oil, I can use that instead of the regular lotion I was using.

I’ll let you guys know how I liked the Baby Creamy Oil after I’ve tried  it.

Makeover: Neutral Smokey Eye

March 29, 2010

I did a makeover yesterday, which included eyebrow grooming, full face (some contouring), and lash application.  She had a lot of redness on her face that I corrected and concealed.  I think it was due to a mask she did prior to visiting me.  Please, if you know you’re getting your makeup done, do your facials at least a week prior to just in case you have a reaction to the products used during your facial.  She also had dark under eye circles, that I concealed.

Weekend Recap: Tribeca Retail Club Fashion Night Out| Afiesha’s Birthday Party

March 28, 2010

On Friday,  March 26th, I went to the Tribeca Retail Club Fashion Night Out at Chacala a Secret Spot.  Several booths were setup, consisting mostly of accessory designers, two clothing booths, and one makeup station (Yagolicious).  The event was free, however, $15 VIP tickets were available for purchase on-line, which entitled you to a goody bag, and open bar.

This event was similar to Shecky’s Nights Out.  I think this was a pretty cool event, and is something that will definitely “pop-off” in the upcoming years.   It’s great for up & coming designers who would like to get the word out about their products.  I just wish there was a larger variety of vendors.    Like I said before, it was mostly jewelry designers.
I ended up purchased a fly pair of shades from Accessory Remix.  These shades have been worn by people like Teyana Taylor.  They’re pretty cool since you can wear the chain on the shades sans shades.  I can’t wait to take them to the beach!
Here are more pictures from the event:

Yesterday was one of my best friends birthday parties – the one I asked you guys to help me pick an outfit for in this post last week.  It took place at the Gansevoort Hotel’s Rooftop.  It was nice.  All of us who came out looked great! Here are a few pictures from last night.  I ended up wearing the jumpsuit since it was so cold here in New York City.
